Networking DesignsPPI network
PPI is the communication system integrated in every S7-200 CPU. Connections for programming, operation or monitoring can be established over a common two-wire cable. The CPUs can communicate simultaneously with several CPUs, TDs or OPs. Data transmission rates 9.6, 19.2 and 187.5 Kbit/s. The following can be connected: - Programming devices: FieldPG, PowerPG.
- PCs (AT-compatible), via PC/PPI cable.
- TD200 Text Display, TP070 Touch Panel; SIMATIC Operator Panels.
- SIMATIC S7-200:
Max. 31 S7-200 PLCs on a common data line to a PG, PC, TD200 or OP. Direct data exchange between S7-200 PLCs (in each case as master) and NETR and NETW
MPI network All CPUs can be connected to an MPI network over the integral interface (19.2/187.5 Kbit/s) and thus communicate with SIMATIC S7-300/S7-400. The S7-200 CPUs are slaves on the network and cannot communicate with each other. Point-to-point interface, freely-programmable interface mode
For connection of third-party devices with RS 232 interface via PC/PPI cable. Data transmission is carried out in the freeport mode of the CPU, and both ports of the CPU 226 can be operated in freeport mode. A user-specific, bit-oriented communication protocol is used (e.g. ASCII protocol or Modbus), and the max. data transmission rate is 115.2 Kbit/s (adjustable). Point-to-point connections are possible to: - Any data terminals with serial interface, e.g. printers, barcode readers, modems.
- S7-200 micro-PLC; e.g. for simple data exchange between two CPUs.
AS-Interface
The SIMATIC S7-200 (CPU 22x) is connected as master to the AS-Interface via the CP 243-2. This significantly increases the number of inputs and outputs: - Max. 63 AS-Interface slaves with max. 248binary elements
PROFIBUS DP slave
Totally integrated and uniform communication is guaranteed between all SIMATIC system components over PROFIBUS DP with uniform external openness. The high transmission rate of the PROFIBUS DP (up to max. 12 Mbit/s) permits full utilization of the real-time characteristics of the S7-200 within a distributed plant structure. Response times in the millisecond range permit e.g.: - Motor synchronization
- Alarm-oriented applications
- Coordination of fast counting processes
